When I teach class no matter the size or place I always teach top rock and six step. these are two of the most basic moves you can learn. They take little time to learn and are the basis of most breakdance moves.
The six step is considered one of the first moves you should learn. Not only is it very easy to learn but it is also the connecting point for a lot of other moves. Your focus should be on technique first and then speed.
To do this step you should start off in a push up position with your knees bent slightly.
Next lift your left hand and take your right leg and step it threw towards your left hand.
In step two you want to pretend there is a magnet in the back of your right knee and step your left leg into the back of your right knee.
Now sweep your right foot out in front of you until it is strait then bend your knee and bring your foot in. This step should look like a sweeping motion. This is the action that makes the six step look cool.
Take your left leg and put it out strait in front of you. Once it is strait you will want to sweep this leg in front of your right leg so they are crossed with your body weight on your right leg and your left leg swept in front.
Now place you body weight on your left leg and step backwards to uncross with your right leg.
Finally your left leg will uncross fully in front of your right and you will be back in the push up position.
Once you get the motion down smooth you should try going the other direction. This always makes your foot work look more professional. It is important you remember that it is not important to focus on speed until you have technique.
Once you can do the this step with ease you should try adding a rotation to it. While you are doing this step let the momentum of your leg sweeps in steps 3 and 4 spin your body. This will give your foot work extra glide and speed.
It is easy and fun to learn to breakdance. The best part is its free. All you need is a floor and some music. Anyone can learn to do it and I want to show YOU how.
